From the moment I enquired with Global Medical Care I have received constant communication, flying to Turkey for surgery is very daunting, however we were made to feel welcome and relaxed. Our Dr has been incredible, he must have visited us 8/9 times during our stay, answering any questions, and really made me feel that he cared. Our translator Sammy was on hand to help with anything we needed and even a rep from GMC came and saw us and spent time with us.
Gastric Sleeve is a big operation and the team made us feel so supported. Our surgeon has just text even after discharge. I can’t thank you all enough. My life has completely changed.
Just on my last day before travelling back home to England, after having a gastric sleeve with Dr Yalim Ucktum via Global Medical Care. Right from the initial contact, I felt confident in my decision and comforted by every question answered by them.
When we got to Turkey, everything was ready, the transfers were lovely big Mercedes, when we got to the hospital for our first night, our English translator was there straight away and ordered us dinner. We started with our first test which then carried on the next morning, there are so many tests and this was really reassuring. Our doctor came to visit us before our op and just is the loveliest man. The Global Medical Care team were also there, which was lovely as we had been speaking with them for so long.
The op itself went really well, and we’ve had great after care from the whole team, including the doctor who kept coming to check on us.
I would recommend over and over.
Thanks Global Medical CARE, Team I’m fully satisfied with operation, for me this medical experience and this package is the best.
Anybody can come without hesitation. This operation is very easy, very good doctors surround you. Every day my hairs growing slowly slowly and I m happy with that. Once again Thanks Global Medical Care
The whole team is very warm-tempered, nice and accommodating. Everyone looked at my well-being the language is not a problem as everything is translated perfectly. The result has become perfect, I am very happy that I have come into such good hands.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT BARIATRIC SURGERIES
Bariatric surgical procedures cause weight loss by restricting the amount of food the stomach can hold, causing malabsorption of nutrients, or by a combination of both. Bariatric procedures also often cause hormonal changes. Most weight-loss surgeries today are performed using minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopic surgery). The most common bariatric surgery procedures are gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric balloon. But these surgeries have to be combined with a lifestyle and dietary change to bring life long effects.
A small stomach pouch, approximately 30 milliliters in volume, is created by dividing the top of the stomach from the rest of the stomach. Next, the first portion of the small intestine is divided, and the bottom end of it is brought up and connected to the newly created small stomach pouch. The procedure is completed by connecting the top portion of the divided small intestine to the small intestine further down so that the stomach acids and enzymes from the bypassed stomach will eventually mix with the food.
First, the new stomach pouch holds a considerably smaller volume than the normal stomach and helps to significantly reduce the amount of food (and thus calories) that can be consumed. The greater impact, however, seems to be the effect the surgery has on gut hormones that impact a number of factors including hunger, satiety, and blood sugar control.
Intragastric balloon placement is a weight-loss procedure that involves placing a saline-filled silicone balloon in your stomach. This helps you lose weight by limiting how much you can eat and making you feel fuller faster.
Which treatment is the most suitable for you, should be defined after the initial tests at the hospital via considering your current health, test results, and other illnesses if you have. Before this decision, you will see 3 or 4 different doctors to have a multidisciplinary check and then you will decide with your surgeon. As well different countries have different regulations in this surgery. Some patients who are not operated in some countries can be operated in others. Our team will help you with the right choice of the country as well.
All the above mentioned operations can be done in either standard methods or by a robotic surgery. Robotic surgeries can only be done in very selective hospitals and provide:
- Increased precision
- Smaller incisions
- Less blood loss
- Fewer complications
- Shorter hospital stays
- Much faster recoveries

FAQ - BARIATRIC SURGERIES
Can I go back to work 1 week after gastric sleeve?
Yes. You can go to work one week after the gastric sleeve. Some patients may feel some tiredness in the fist days. But this is not something that will limit someone’s ability to work.
Can I go off some of my medications after surgery?
As you lose weight, you may be able to reduce or eliminate the need for many of the medications you take for high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, cholesterol, and diabetes. If you have a gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, you may even be able to reduce the dosage or discontinue the use of your diabetes medications soon after your procedure.
Can I have laparoscopic surgery if I have had other abdominal surgery procedures in the past, or have a hernia, or have a stoma?
The general answer to this is yes. Make sure to tell your surgeon and anesthesiologist about all prior operations, especially those on your abdomen and pelvis. Many of us forget childhood operations. It is best to avoid surprises! Sometimes your surgeon may ask to see the operative report from complicated or unusual procedures, especially those on the esophagus, stomach, or bowels.
Can I have laparoscopic surgery if I have heart disease?
Yes, but you may need medical clearance from your cardiologist. Bariatric surgery leads to improvement in most problems related to heart disease including:
– High Blood Pressure
– Lipid problems
– Heart enlargement (dilated heart, or abnormal thickening)
– Vascular (artery and vein) and coronary (heart artery) disease
During the screening process, be sure to let your surgeon know about any heart conditions you have. Even those with atrial fibrillation, heart valve replacement, or previous stents or heart bypass surgery usually do very well. If you are on blood thinners of any type, expect special instructions just before and after surgery.
Does type 2 diabetes make surgery riskier?
It can. Be sure to follow any instructions from your surgeon about managing your diabetes around the time of surgery. Almost everyone with Type 2 Diabetes sees big improvement or even complete remission after surgery. Some studies have even reported improvement of Type 1 Diabetes after bariatric procedures.
How long after a bariatric surgery will I have to be out from work?
After surgery, most patients return to work in one or two weeks. You will have low energy for a while after surgery and may need to have some half days or work every other day for your first week back. Your surgeon will give you clear instructions. Most jobs want you back in the workplace as soon as possible, even if you can’t perform ALL duties right away. Your safety and the safety of others are extremely important – low energy can be dangerous in some jobs.
How long do you stay in Turkey after gastric sleeve?
The shortest gastric sleeve stay should be at least 4 nights. One night before the operation and 3 nights after the operation. Longer stays can as well be applicable but they are not medically needed.
How long does gastric sleeve last?
The gastric sleeve is a lifelong change for the patients who follow the aftercare and who can change their eating habits. Thus the results of the gastric sleeve will last forever.
How much is it to get a gastric sleeve in Turkey?
Gastric sleeve in Turkey prices may vary from £2000 till £4000. The main difference of these prices are the comfort level, lenght of the stay and as well hospital and doctor choices. A higher price is not always provide a better service and a lower price is not always provide lack of quality and end results.
How painful is a gastric sleeve?
Gastric sleeve is a fairly painless operation. Patients may feel some discomfort and pain during the first 4-5 hours after the operation. But after that we do not expect any pain. Generally patients are feeling so good that they want to return earlier than planned.
Is it safe to get a gastric sleeve in Turkey?
Yes. It is safe to have a gastric sleeve in Turkey. Of course, to be in secure hands, you have to count on a professional organization who do a very good check on doctors and hospitals they work. When you make sound choices, having gastric sleeve in Turkey is very safe.
When can I get pregnant after metabolic and bariatric surgery? Will the baby be healthy?
Most women are much more fertile after surgery, even with moderate pre-op weight loss. Birth control pills do not work as well in patients who are overweight. Birth control pills are not very reliable during the time your weight is changing. For this reason, having an IUD or using condoms and spermicide with all intercourse is needed. Menstrual periods can be very irregular, and you can get pregnant when you least expect it!
Most groups recommend waiting 12-18 months after surgery before getting pregnant.
Kids born after mom’s surgery are LESS at risk of being affected by obesity later, due to the activation of certain genes during fetal growth (look up “epigenetics” – for more information). There is also less risk of needing a C section.
When can I start exercising again after surgery?
Right away! You will take gentle, short walks even while you are in the hospital. The key is to start slow. Listen to your body and your surgeon. If you lift weights or do sports, stay “low impact” for the first month (no competitions). Build slowly over several weeks. If you swim, your wounds need to be healed over before you get back in the water.
Where is the best place in Turkey to get a gastric sleeve?
The best place to get gastric sleeve in Turkey are Izmir and Istanbul. They are not only wel connected to the world with direct flights but as well they have lots of internationally accredited hopitals and they are great locations for doctors to pick.
Why is divorce rate so high after bariatric surgery?
Gastric sleeve generally is a life changing event. People change their look, their eating habits and some of their habits. Thus this change in some cases may end up with bigger life changes as well.
Why is gastric sleeve surgery cheaper in Turkey?
Gastric sleeve is cheaper in Turkey because of the cost of living and wage differences between countries. Reputable organisations will provide you always the same materials to be used during the surgery. But as the rents, wages and cost of living is cheaper the total price for this operation will be cheaper as well.
Will I have to diet or exercise after the procedure?
No and Yes.
Most people think of a “diet” as a plan that leaves you hungry. That is not the way people feel after surgery. Eventually, most patients get some form of appetite back 6-18 months after surgery. Your appetite is much weaker and easier to satisfy than before.
This does not mean that you can eat whatever and whenever you want. Healthier food choices are important to the best results, but most patients still enjoy tasty food, and even “treats.”
Most patients also think of exercise as something that must be intense and painful (like “boot camp”). Regular, modest activity is far more useful in the long term. You will work with your surgeon’s program to find a variety of activities that can work for you. There is no “one-size-fits-all” plan. Expect to learn and change as you go!
For many patients (and normal-weight people, too) exercise is more important for regular stress control, and for appetite control, than simply burning off calories. As we age, inactivity can lead to being frail or fragile, which is quite dangerous to overall health. Healthy bones and avoiding muscle loss partly depends on doing weekly weight-bearing (including walking) or muscle resistance (weights or similar) exercise.
Will I have to go on a diet before I have surgery?
In some cases. Some bariatric surgeons put their patients on a special pre-operative diet, usually 2 or 3 weeks just before surgery. The reason for the pre-operative diet is to shrink the liver and reduce fat in the abdomen. This helps during the procedure and makes it safer. These diets are very different from the short term diets, and usually are more about food education and showing a willingness to complete appointments and to learn.
Will I have to take vitamins and minerals after surgery?
You will need to take a multivitamin for life. You may need higher doses of certain vitamins or minerals, especially Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin D. You will also need to have at least yearly lab checks.
Will I lose my hair after bariatric surgery?
Some hair loss is common between 3 and 6 months following surgery. The reasons for this are not totally understood. Even if you take all the recommended supplements, hair loss will be noticed until the follicles come back. Hair loss is almost always temporary. Adequate intake of protein, vitamins, and minerals will help to ensure hair re-growth and avoid longer-term thinning.
Will I need to have plastic surgery?
Most patients have some loose or sagging skin, but it is often more temporary than expected. You will have a lot of change between 6 and 18 months after surgery. Your individual appearance depends upon several things, including how much weight you lose, your age, your genetics and whether or not you exercise or smoke. Generally, loose skin is well-hidden by clothing. Many patients wear compression garments, which can be found online, to help with appearance.
Some patients will choose to have plastic surgery to remove excess skin. Most surgeons recommend waiting at least 18 months, but you can be evaluated before that.
